Our wines are designed to capture the essence of life, whether it be a casual moment or a sophisticated evening. Malene sources traditional rosé grape varietals – Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (Vermentino), Mourvedre, Syrah and Counoise. When blended, these varietals work harmoniously to create our flagship cuvée, Malene Rosé. When bottled on its own, these distinctive varietals are beautiful expressions of their unique terroir and fruit characteristics.
This wine is an ode to Provence. Our intention is to create a cuvee (blend) where each of the varietal components is harmoniously contributing to a delicious and multifaceted rosé. The grenache and cinsault provide exuberant strawberry and melon, the carignan a spicy top note, the mourvedre a rich savoriness and the vermentino a delicate floral nuance.
The 2021 Old Vine Rosé opens with notes of Pomelo, white peach, and red cherry bubble gum that are echoed on the palate. The entry is bright with a subtle oak influence complemented by juicy acidity. This complex Rosé can be enjoyed now or over the next 3-5 years. Pair with this month’s featured recipe; Bruschetta with Ricotta, Arugula, and Proscuitto.
Because of its east-west orientation so close to the Pacific Coast, the Edna Valley is one of the coolest appellations in California. Its long, temperate growing season gives the grapes plenty of time to ripen on the vine — typically several weeks longer than warmer growing regions.
